2AFC Productions present the premiere of Shel Silverstein's, 'Hamlet... As Told On The Street' at The Raven Playhouse, NoHo Arts District.

"If you are a dreamer, come in / If you are a dreamer, a wisher, a liar, / A hope-er, a pray-er, a magic bean buyer... / If you're a pretender, come sit by my fire / For we have some flax-golden tales to spin. / Come in! / Come in!" - Shel Silverstein

Shel Silverstein's, Hamlet... As Told On The Street
written by the world famous playwright and poet, makes its theatrical debut this summer at the Raven Playhouse. Some of Shel's poetry and songs highlight this newly adapted piece of theatre, as well as a plethora of further original words and music. Based upon William Shakespeare's classic Hamlet, we remove the entire iambic pentameter and replace it with jazz, folk and Shel's unique blend of rhythm and rhyme. Set within the beatnik world, where one's words are measured by what you say and not how you say them. This untraditional and alternative piece of adult poetry was originally published in Playboy Magazine.

"Shel Silverstein was a renaissance man. The author of Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show’s 1972 hit, “The Cover of the Rolling Stone,” he was a songwriter, singer, playwright, cartoonist, poet and author whose work touched millions... He was probably best known for his children’s books, which include The Giving Tree, Where the Sidewalk Ends and A Light in the Attic.  His verse was filled with irreverent humor, but it contained a wealth of insight into human nature and spoke strongly to adults as kids.  Shel also contributed cartoons and poems to Playboy in the 1950s, and his affiliation with the magazine continued into the Nineties.  His songs were recorded by artists as diverse as Johnny Cash (“A Boy Named Sue”), Marianned Faithfull (“The Ballad of Lucy Jordan”), the Irish Rovers (“The Unicorn”) and Loretta Lynn (“One’s on the Way”).  Shel also collaborated with David Mamet on the script of the movie Things Change and wrote numerous plays of his own." - Mitch Myers, Shel's nephew, Rolling Stone Magazine, June 24, 1999

2AFC Productions is dedicated to providing unique and creative entertainment for the masses, everyday, everywhere; to providing an outlet for artists of all mediums to come together and create something fun, different, meaningful and passionate. Jeremy Asher is the founding member of 2AFC Productions and Shel Silverstein's, Hamlet... is the premiere work of the company and we couldn't be more excited or proud of that.

"If you saw Shel coming up a New York sidewalk with his old mailman's bag stuffed full of songs wearing a worn-out pair of cowboy boots and faded Can't-Bust-'Em jeans, you'd never guess that he'd written dozens of hit records and sold over eighteen million children's books.” -- Fred Koller

Mr. Shel Silverstein passed away in May of 1999 and left a legacy of brilliant niche work that deserves to be celebrated for many long years. 2AFC Productions is proud to make another step in securing that legacy and Shel's place in history.
